Save the official map result

Use the FEMA Flood Map Service Center for the actual address. Save the map reference and date. Ask a qualified professional about anything you cannot interpret, including map changes, elevation documentation and the property’s location relative to mapped boundaries.

Ask about exposure and coverage separately

A map category does not answer every question about drainage, past water intrusion or insurance. Ask the seller for available disclosures, ask an inspector about visible conditions, and discuss flood coverage and costs with a licensed insurance professional.

Make a household storm plan

Review local emergency management instructions and the Florida preparedness resources. Identify where you will get alerts and how you will handle evacuation, medications, pets and important records. Flood zones and evacuation zones answer different questions; check both through the relevant authorities.

Your decision checklist

  • FEMA map saved
  • Insurance question recorded
  • Local evacuation guidance checked
  • Household plan discussed
